Two independent installers

Install the right
BUZZ product.

Headend, Streamer, and OTT share the BuzzStreamer appliance. BUZZ Middleware is an independent product for external Flussonic and uses a separate installer.

Appliance installation

Install Headend, Streamer, or OTT.

Connect to the fresh server over SSH and run each step. Keep the license key private and enter it only in the appliance interface.

01

Download the archive and checksum

wget https://getbuzzstreamer.com/downloads/buzzstreamer-customer-installer.tar.gz
wget https://getbuzzstreamer.com/downloads/buzzstreamer-customer-installer.tar.gz.sha256
02

Verify the download

Do not continue unless the result is OK.

sha256sum -c buzzstreamer-customer-installer.tar.gz.sha256
03

Extract the installer

mkdir buzzstreamer-installer
tar -xzf buzzstreamer-customer-installer.tar.gz -C buzzstreamer-installer
04

Run the installer

cd buzzstreamer-installer
sudo ./install.sh

Activate the matching edition

Open the control panel address shown by the installer, sign in, then open Configuration → License. Enter a Headend, Streamer, or OTT key and activate. A Middleware key cannot activate this appliance.

Browser-first Middleware installation

Install and open BUZZ Middleware.

Run only the download, extraction, and installer commands below on a fresh Ubuntu Server 26.04 LTS host. The installer creates the application path, installs every prerequisite, starts mandatory HTTPS, checks health, and prints the exact one-time browser URL.

01

Download and verify Middleware

Do not continue unless the result is OK. The expected SHA-256 is set-your-release-sha256-here.

wget https://getbuzzstreamer.com/downloads/buzz-middleware-customer-installer-1.0.4.tar.gz
wget https://getbuzzstreamer.com/downloads/buzz-middleware-customer-installer-1.0.4.tar.gz.sha256
sha256sum -c buzz-middleware-customer-installer-1.0.4.tar.gz.sha256
02

Extract to the independent application path

sudo tar -xzf buzz-middleware-customer-installer-1.0.4.tar.gz -C /opt
03

Run the protected installer

Allow the installer to finish. It performs the Ubuntu update, installs PHP 8.5, nginx, certbot and ionCube Loader, starts the web stack, validates /health, and prints “Complete first-run setup:” followed by a unique HTTPS URL.

sudo /opt/middleware/install/install.sh
04

Create the first administrator in your browser

Copy the complete URL printed after “Complete first-run setup:” exactly as shown. Do not construct a URL or reuse the example text. Before accepting the temporary self-signed certificate warning, match its SHA-256 fingerprint to the fingerprint printed by the installer. Create the administrator, then sign in; the one-time token is consumed and setup closes permanently.

05

Finish browser configuration

Create the public DNS record first. In Middleware open Configuration → Settings, enter the domain, save, verify DNS, and issue the Let's Encrypt certificate. Add the external server and its encrypted API credentials under Flussonic Sources, test representative playback, and export an encrypted backup under Configuration → Backup.

Signed Middleware-only updates

Release 1.0.4 includes Configuration → Update and a dedicated Middleware updater with protected backups, migration rehearsal, health verification, and automatic rollback. The release SHA-256 and detached Ed25519 signature are published beside the installer. The updater cannot modify a BuzzStreamer appliance.

Existing Middleware installations use the standalone 1.0.4 updater once to add Configuration → Update. Verify its SHA-256 file and the installer's detached signature before use.

No manual environment edit is required for initial web setup

The installer enables nginx, PHP-FPM, Middleware, and the required buzz-middleware-https.path unit automatically. EPG, VOD-watch, and certificate-renewal timers are optional operations and remain disabled until their matching browser configuration has been completed and tested.

Restoring an encrypted backup?

Install the exact same Middleware release into an empty configuration database and create a new administrator first. Open Configuration → Backup, upload the .buzzbak, enter its private passphrase, and confirm RESTORE_CONFIGURATION. Reconfigure host-specific DNS, TLS, callback secrets, billing credentials, and storage afterward.
